Public Policy Measure
The Care Home for Elderly People (ERPI) is an facility for collective accommodation, for temporary or permanent use, in which social support activities are carried out and adequate care is provided, adapted to the needs of the elderly person and their family.
The Care Home for Elderly People has a number of objectives, of which the following stand out:
* To provide permanent care appropriate to the biopsychosocial condition of elderly people;
* To help stimulate an active and healthy ageing process by promoting self-care and the provision of personalised and humanised care;
* Create conditions to preserve and encourage relationships within the family and with people of reference, as well as promoting new interpersonal relationships to combat isolation;
* Promote strategies for developing a common experience, in a community logic, with respect for individuality, interests and abilities, as well as the privacy of each person and/or family;
* Fostering social relationships, coexistence, mutual help and community spirit;
* Providing transitional and temporary accommodation, within the framework of the informal carer’s respite scheme and hospital discharges.
This social response is regulated by Order No. 67/2012, of March 21, in its current version, which defines the conditions of organization, operation and installation that residential structures for elderly people must comply with.
