Young people who attend Public Secondary Schools
The value represents the annual expenditure per pupil in public secondary education establishments and is calculated by dividing the total expenditure in educational establishments at this level by the number of full-time equivalent pupils enrolled. This cost is set out in the OECD’s Education at a Glance 2025 Report.
Secondary Education is universal, compulsory and free and comprises a three-year cycle (10th, 11th and 12th grades).
Compulsory education begins when children reach the age of 6 at the start of the school year and its completion depends on successfully completing secondary education or reaching the age of 18.
Free compulsory education means that public education is offered with no tuition fees and total exemption from fees and emoluments related to enrolment, registration, school attendance and certification, while students also receive support under the school social action programme if they meet the specified deadlines.
