People who attend Convalescence Units (UC – RNCCI)
Value paid per day by the Health Service to the entities promoting and managing the units and teams of the National Network for Long-term Integrated Care – Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados (Public Entities of the National Health Service, Private Social Solidarity Institutions – IPSS or legally equivalent entities, and Private Entities), with programme contracts, for the development of Convalescence Units – Unidade de Convalescença.
The National Network for Long-term Integrated Care – Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados (RNCCI) consists of continuing healthcare and/or social support units and teams, and a set of integrated continuing mental healthcare units and teams, which originate from local community services, covering hospitals, health centres, social security services, entities form social economy and local authorities. The RNCCI is implemented by the Ministries of Health and Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.
The Convalescence Units – Unidade de Convalescença (UC) are independent residential units, integrated into an acute care hospital or other institution linked to an acute care hospital, to provide continuous and intensive treatment and clinical supervision, and clinical rehabilitation care, following hospitalisation due to an acute clinical situation, recurrence or decompensation of a chronic process. The purpose of these units is the clinical and functional stabilisation, assessment and comprehensive rehabilitation of persons with a temporary loss of autonomy that is potentially recoverable and who do not require acute hospital care. They are intended for hospitalisations of up to 30 consecutive days per admission.
