Public Policy Measure
A Crèche is a socio-educational service, implemented in specific physical facilities, intended to support both the family and the child, and designed to accommodate children up to the age of three during periods when their parents or legal guardians are unable to provide care.
The objectives of the kindergarten are:
a) To facilitate the reconciliation of family and professional life in the household;
b) To collaborate with the family in sharing care and responsibilities throughout the child’s development;
c) To ensure individual and personalised care according to the specific needs of each child;
d) Preventing and detecting any maladjustment, disability or risk situation at an early stage, ensuring the most appropriate referral;
e) Providing conditions for the child’s full development, in an environment of physical and emotional security;
f) To liaise with other services in the community.
This social service is regulated by Order 262/2011 of 31 August, in its current wording, that establishes the regulatory framework governing the conditions for the establishment and operation of Crèche.
