People who attend Unidade de Longa Duração e Manutenção (ULDM – RNCCI)
Value paid per day by the Health Service to the entities promoting and managing the units and teams of the National Network for Long-term Integrated Care – Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados (Public Entities of the National Health Service, Private Social Solidarity Institutions – IPSS or legally equivalent entities, and Private Entities), with programme contracts, for the development of Long-Term Care Units – Unidades de Longa Duração e Manutenção.
The National Network for Long-term Integrated Care – Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados (RNCCI) consists of continuing healthcare and/or social support units and teams, and a set of integrated continuing mental healthcare units and teams, which originate from local community services, covering hospitals, health centres, social security services, entities form social economy and local authorities. The RNCCI is implemented by the Ministries of Health and Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.
The Long-Term Care Units – Unidades de Longa Duração e Manutenção (ULDM) are temporary or permanent resident units with their own physical space, providing social support and maintenance health care to people with chronic diseases or conditions, with varying levels of dependency, who are unable to be cared for at home.
The purpose of these units is to provide care that prevents and delays the worsening of the situation of dependency, promoting comfort and quality of life, for a period of residence exceeding 90 consecutive days.
The legislation regulating this public policy measure is Decree-Law No. 101/2006 of 6 June in its current wording and Decree-Law No. 8/2010 of 28 January in its current wording.
