The Life Support Center (CAV) is a social service, implemented in specific physical facilities, aimed at supporting and monitoring pregnant women or women who have recently given birth with newborn children, who are at emotional or social risk.
This social service aims to:

b) Ensure conditions for the birth and development of the newborn;
c) Contribute to the exercise of responsible maternity or paternity;
d) Promote the acquisition of personal, professional and social skills, with a view to their social, family and professional integration.
The Life Support Centre is regulated by Ministerial Order no. 446/2004, of 30 April, which defines the conditions for the creation, organisation, installation and operation of life support centres as part of a social action pilot project.
