Public Policy Measure

The Iniciar Internships Measure is an employment policy that promotes the labour market integration of young people with disabilities or the professional retraining of unemployed individuals holding Level 4 or 5 qualifications of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), through the provision of internships lasting six months, which are not extendable.

Its objectives are to promote the professional integration of unemployed individuals into the labour market by providing work-based experience; to improve the transition mechanisms between the education and vocational training system and their alignment with labour market needs, thereby enhancing employability within companies; and to foster the increase and improvement of people’s qualifications.

The measure targets unemployed individuals registered with the employment services who meet one of the following conditions: aged between 18 and 35 years with Level 4 or 5 NQF qualifications; aged over 35, who have not been granted a retirement pension, provided they obtained a Level 4 or 5 NQF qualification within the last 24 months; people with disabilities holding Level 4 or 5 NQF qualifications, or lower; and individuals with Level 4 or 5 NQF qualifications, who regardless of age, are registered as unemployed with IEFP.

This public policy measure was established by Order No. 219/2024/1 of 23 September.
