Public Policy Measure

The Family Support and Parental Counselling Centre is a specialised support service for families with children and young people, aimed at preventing and repairing situations of psychosocial risk by developing families’ parental, personal and social skills.

These centres have a number of objectives, including:
* To prevent situations of risk and danger by promoting positive parenting;
* Assessing the dynamics of risk and protection in families and the possibilities for change;
* Developing parenting, personal and social skills to improve parental performance;
* Empowering families by promoting and reinforcing quality relational dynamics and daily routines;
* Increase family and individual resilience;
* To favour the reintegration of the child or young person into the family environment.

These centres include the following modalities of services:
a) Family preservation;
b) Family reunification;
c) Family meeting point.

This social service is regulated by Order no. 139/2013, of 2 April, which establishes the form of intervention, organisation and operation of Family Support and Parental Counselling Centres.
